Built to withstand the elements

The Windy Bottom takes its name from its site โ€” an exposed coastal plot where the wind is a constant presence. The architecture responds with a bold, sculptural form: a sweeping steel roof that appears to hover over a glass-and-concrete body, grounded yet seemingly in motion.

Corten steel cladding was chosen for its patina โ€” a rusted surface that protects the structure while blending the building into the brown-gold landscape of the Gujarat coastline.

Inside, the floor plan is organised around a series of protected courtyards that offer outdoor respite from the wind. Deep overhangs and shaded verandahs extend the living space outward, making the most of the dramatic coastal light.
